I’m Brenna Hall.
This is a place for me to share my art and writing, which is mostly about human connection and disconnection. The ways we are together, the ways we are apart, the way we are ourselves.
I am fascinated by birth and labor as the original disconnection: How each of us went from living inside of darkness, alone but physically connected. To living in the world, together, but separated by our own bodies.
Every moment we’re living in that push and pull–together and apart. The euphoria that comes from separateness and the longing that brings us back together.
I’m interested in the ways we try to bridge that gap. Through art and ritual–creating spaces where we can tolerate all sorts of taboo we’d reject in everyday life–nakedness, pain, mind altering substances, singing in front of strangers. Through break ups and ruptures–leaving the people or groups that don’t (or we fear won’t) tolerate parts of us that we can no longer reject. Through anonymity and one time interactions with people you’ll never see again–the secrets you can tell at summer camp.
